August 20, 2020 First Tee – Greater Pasadena (FTGP) is proud to announce that Coach Kathy Cho was named Western Section Junior Leader of the year for 2020 by the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). LPGA Junior Leader of the Year Award is presented to an LPGA Professionals member who has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments related to junior golf during the year. Kathy was 1 of 6 LPGA Professional members to receive this award. There are six (6) sections in the LPGA (Central, International, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and Western). Kathy Cho has been a First Tee Coach at FTGP since its inception in 2006. In 2009, Kathy became a recognized First Tee Coach through the First Tee.
As a top instructor in the Pasadena area who can communicate in Korean, Spanish, and English, Kathy’s time is always in demand. But among the many personal accomplishments she has earned in her career, being named Junior Leader is an award she is especially proud of. This is evidently clear as Kathy has dedicated a countless amount of hours serving as a coach for the FTGP which is a youth development program that utilizes the game of golf as a vehicle to seamlessly teach character, life-skills, and core values. FTGP serves families across the greater Pasadena community which currently operates programs at 8 golf courses in our service area.
In addition to Kathy’s Class A membership to the LGPA, she is also a dual card-carrying Class A member with the Professional Golf Association (PGA). But her service goes well beyond private instruction in Pasadena. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kathy is growing the game of golf to students of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, physical capabilities, and has recently served as a golf ambassador to her native land. As a nationally recognized First Tee Coach, Kathy was approached by First Tee headquarters to connect and train coaches with one their international chapters in Korea. Her experience with the First Tee and warm spirit of sharing the game made her a perfect candidate. As a result, Kathy’s efforts helped pave the way for First Tee’s ever sister chapter partnership between First Tee chapters of FTGP and Korea.
Kathy’s enthusiasm for the game and compassion for her students is demonstrated during her First Tee group lessons. Presenting the game in exuberant manner by creating visually exciting activity setups that create an atmosphere for young learners to enjoy is just one of Kathy’s calling cards. She approaches each opportunity to teach the game with great passion. Kathy credits this by saying, “Go beyond what you’re told to do.” Kathy has certainly demonstrated such. ... See MoreSee Less
